another weeks goes by

Another summer week has flown by. It's weird how fast they go when you aren't at school all day. We had a good day on Friday with a very quick trip up to Dallas to get my ring looked at. Steve bought my engagement ring in Dallas and we have to get it 'checked out' by the store every 6 months. That way in case something happens, like the diamond coming out - which has happened twice- they will replace it for no charge. Due to the setting it seems more fragile. Last time the diamond came out they redid the prongs which has made it stronger.

We have been doing some 'deep' cleaning of our house for the social worker visit on Tuesday. I hope she appreciates all our hard work :) :)

We had homegroup at our home tonight which was very nice. It is wonderful to get together with other couples and have some fellowship time. Tomorrow my sister closes on her house in Woodway, yeah Cheryl!
The bunny has had a relaxing weekend as well, of course every day for him is relaxing. He loves to lay on his blanket in the middle of our floor. Looks like he is pretty comfortable :)

Bunny days of Summer

So you have heard of the "Dog days of Summer" well at my house we have the bunny days of summer. We are bunny sitting for my schools rabbit. This is the 2nd summer we have bunny-sat and have enjoyed it. Serenity is his name (long story behind that :) and he likes air conditioning and carrots. Here is a pic of his favorite thing, being scratched on the head. I used to think it was silly for people to go nuts over their pets but I have a better understanding of it now. This is Steve's only chance to have a pet since I won't let him get a dog. Serenity likes to hang out in the bathroom on the cool tile, luckily this summer he has done less damage to our carpet.
We have been busy with adoption paperwork. We got a criminal background checks today, thank goodness we came out in the clear :) We also found out our 1st home study with our social worker is going to be Tuesday. Between now and then we have to clean out the room that will become the nursery, should be fun. I think we should be able to send our 1st packet to the Chinese gov't by the end of next week. We still have to have physicals which is loads of fun. I always say I am going to lose weight before going to the dr. again, guess I don't have time this time around :)

another summer week

I wish I could say I haven't blogged this week b/c I was so busy... just not so. Steve and I have really enjoyed our time off together. We have continued to work on the adoption paper chase and we will for the next few weeks. As of Tuesday we have a new roof. They did it in one day, I was very impressed and glad that worry is taken care of. The plumber came to look at our water leak and tell us what our options are as far a fixing, sounds expensive. I have learned that anything to do with a water problem is expensive!
As for the weekend... We saw HAIRSPRAY on Friday night. What a fun movie! I love musicals and haven't gotten to see this one on the big stage yet but seeing it on screen was lots of fun. Of course I now have the soundtrack and laugh every time I listen to it.
Friday night was a late night due to HARRY POTTER year 7 coming out. Yes, I am a huge HP book fan. We headed to Wally World after the movie to stand in line with the many others to get a copy. I was so excited, yet kinda sad, knowing this would be the last book. I stayed up till 4am reading. For those of you who know me well you know that is amazing. I continued to read on Saturday and finished late that evening. I won't give anything away 'cause I want everyone to read it for themselves! For those who have just watched the movies I highly encourage you to READ THE BOOKS!!! The HP books are so much better than the movies, at least in my opinion. A huge thanks to Amy P. for getting me hooked many years ago. Amy is a children's librarian who went to Baylor with me and loved the books so passed the word along to me.
I have pleasure of taking care of my nephew Andrew today while his dad starts his job at Baylor. The Gochi will be moving here within the month and we can't wait.
Have a great week!!!

back to waco

Our Vegas vacation was very relaxing and fun. We didn't win any money so it's a good thing we didn't go just for that reason. Steve and I had the discussion of the difference between a Trip and a Vacation. A trip is one where I have planned each day and what we are going to do. There is a certain destination and reason for the visit. Also on a trip there are lots of pics taken, for instance our trip to London. A vacation is manly for relaxation. No major plans and not as many pics. Just hanging out and enjoying being where we are. So Vegas was a vacation! We stayed at the Flamingo hotel b/c of its amazing pool. We were at the pool at least 3 hours each day. Considering temps about 110 each day we stayed cool by the water and under the palm trees. The first pic is a view of the great pool area at Flamingo. We did fit in some show time. We saw 2 Cirque shows - LOVE and KA. Both were really interesting. KA was finally a Cirque show with a story that I could follow. We also saw Momma Mia which was hilarious!! I don't know many ABBA songs but still laughed a lot and enjoyed the show.

While in Vegas we also found out some good news, Steve passed his 2nd Actuary test!!! We are excited about the possibilities that this brings. We don't know what those are right now but Steve is anxious to find out.

Now it is time to get going on the house. We have roofers coming on Tuesday to redo our roof. We are also getting bids on some work that has to be done in our bathroom and kitchen due to a water leak. Guess the vacation is definitely over :)

No more rain!

Our area in Texas has gotten a TON of rain. We haven't been flooded ,thank goodness, but everything is definitely green. I was so glad today that it was finally a sunny day. We headed to the pool to sun ourselves for a few hours. Then it was home to pack. We leave tomorrow morning at 5am to drive to Houston so we can fly to Las Vegas. When we bought the tckts the price was much cheaper out of Houston so we decided to drive down. Now I am thinking the extra money to fly out of Austin or DFW would have been worth it, oh well. We will be in Vegas for a week and I can't wait. We are planning on hanging out poolside and have three shows to see while we are there. I can't wait to blog when we get home. Of course, what happens in Vegas... well you know!

Let the paperchase begin

One thing about adoptions, either domestic or international, there is a lot of paperwork. We have started working on our 1st packet of papers to send into the government for our adoption. We had to get certified copies of our marriage license which was easy since we are still in the Waco area. Getting our birth certificate copies is going to be more of a challenge. Steve was born in New Hampshire and I was born in Germany. We obviously can't go pick them up so I am having to figure out how to get them via internet and mail. We are also working on our autobiography for our homestudy. It has more than 100 questions about pretty much everything about our lives. That part is almost done. We are planning on spending many of our days of summer getting the paper work together.
I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July. Ours was good and luckily it didn't rain unlike today. It was nice to spend time with family. My mom and dad grilled out and made it special for us all. Here is a pic with my parents from the holiday.

Happy almost 4th

Another great weekend! We had lots of fun at Spamalot in Dallas. It is a very, very funny show. I wasn't sure what to expect since I am not a big Monty Python fan. The cast was great with many off the wall jokes.
We enjoyed our last family visit to San Antonio. Andrew had a good birthday with plenty of Aggie stuff to keep him happy. When we returned back to Waco he got a Wii game system. I like the bowling game :)
We are looking forward to my parents annual 4th of July cookout tomorrow. This will be the first year since we have been married that we have actually been in town to go.
Have a Happy 4th!
